Cangge Mining’s Practices and Prospects — Zhang Ping Delivers Speech at the International Seminar on Potash Resource Development in Laos

On October 23, the “International Seminar on Potash Resource Development in Laos,” organized by the China Inorganic Salts Industry Association, was successfully held in Vientiane, Laos. Over 200 participants gathered, including representatives from overseas potash project construction units, enterprises, traders, research institutes, design firms, consulting agencies, as well as domestic downstream companies engaged in potash investment, mining, granulation, production, and sales, and experts from overseas companies, discussing the future of China’s potash industry.

The conference focused on the potash mineral situation in Laos, the progress of ongoing potash projects, process technologies, and development trends. Experts from the potash industries of China and Laos delivered presentations on mine development, comprehensive utilization, environmental management, and new achievements. Zhang Ping, General Manager of Cangge Mining (Laos) Development Co., Ltd., delivered a speech titled “Green Win-Win: Promoting Sustainable Potash Development Along the Belt and Road.”

In her speech, Zhang Ping pointed out that global potash resources are unevenly distributed, while East and Southeast Asia, as the largest potash-consuming regions, are highly dependent on potash imports. This demand presents enormous market opportunities for the global potash industry. As an important node in the Belt and Road Initiative, Laos possesses abundant potash resources and, with the completion of the China-Laos railway, is rapidly emerging as a major global potash producer. Against this backdrop, Chinese enterprises have actively promoted the international allocation of potash resources and engaged in deep cooperation with Laos.

Zhang Ping also provided a detailed introduction of Cangge Mining’s project development in Laos. Since signing the potash exploration agreement with the Lao government in February 2023, the projects in Laos have progressed steadily. By establishing Cangge (Laos) Setani Mining Co., Ltd. and Cangge Mining (Laos) Development Co., Ltd., the company has conducted extensive geological surveys in the exploration areas, laying a solid foundation for subsequent design, construction, and development. Currently, Cangge Mining (Laos) Development Co., Ltd. has successfully obtained the reserve permit for the Ba-Oh mine area and plans to build a production base with an annual output of 2 million tons of potassium chloride and 12,000 tons of sodium bromide.

Regarding green development, Zhang Ping emphasized that Cangge Mining consistently adheres to the concept of green development. Not only does it promote green mine construction in the Chaka Salt Lake project in Qinghai, China, but it also upholds this concept in the Laos projects, striving for a win-win outcome between economic benefits and environmental protection. The company has established multiple environmental protection policies, set up a sustainable development management and execution team, built an industry-specific management indicator system, and designated the board of directors as the ultimate body responsible for corporate sustainable development affairs.

In addition, Zhang Ping introduced Cangge Mining’s initiatives in social responsibility and corporate governance. The company has strengthened cooperation with local governments and improved social welfare through organizing football friendly matches, flood relief, and community networking activities. In terms of corporate governance, Cangge Mining emphasizes transparent and compliant management, ensuring that all operational aspects meet international standards.

Looking ahead, Cangge Mining will continue to strengthen cooperation with the Lao government and enterprises to jointly promote the development of potash resources, providing more stable potash supply guarantees for agricultural and economic development in countries along the Belt and Road. She believes that through the joint efforts of governments, enterprises, research institutions, and international organizations, sustainable resource development can be achieved.
